Jackson Hewitt made a mistake that cost me 1500 dollars

I told the lady not to add my child as a dependent and she did anyway and then I had to do an amended return that brought my refund down 1500 dollars. I know I have to pay the IRS back the money but I want my preparation fees of 256 dollars back. I use Jackson Hewitt every year and I would like to continue to use them but a mistake was made on their part and I want them to do what is right. It was a lady in the Marksville Louisiana office. Her name is Lydia Butler. When I went back to the office She had the amended return already done. She didnt even try to make it up to us. A loyal customer

That preparer must be psychic to be able to read your mind and get all of your sons personal information. Wow!!!

Guest

How could she have put a dependent on your return without your knowledge? There is a whole lot of information required to claim a dependent that only you would know. For instance, she would not know the child's name, social security number, or date of birth without someone telling her.

Guest

Contact JH corporate office they should be able to refund your prep fees. If it was a mistake jackson hewitt made then they are responsible for correcting it and also for any penalties and interest that you owe the irs. Please call the corporate office and report this matter.

Ipower charged me an additional 140 dollars on my second installment. I inquired but was given the run around by both Jackson Hewitt and by Ipower.

I used Jackson Hewitt for the last 7 years, but after this I will not be using them anymore.

If there is a class action suit concerning bogus fees I want in on it. Shadtek@***.com

Guest

I am sorry this happened to you. I always ask all of my clients every question that is necessary so that they can receive every credit they deserve and so that they fully understand what they are being charged for.

I have NEVER given a Gold Guarantee without fully explaining what it is and helping the client determine if they would even need it. Some people are trained to charge without asking. I refuse to do so.

Before I became a tax preparer I always used Jackson Hewitt, and was furious when I realized all of the questions that were not being asked of me. Know ahead of time that there are many deductions that can be taken that many preparers are not making clients aware of because they may not want to take the extra 15 minutes to get you your best refund.

Jackson Hweitt- Keyser WV are idiots

Jackson Hewitt In Keyser WV has no idea what they are doing. They will lie to your face, place false info on your return, not ask you questions in regards to your own taxes, will place info on the 1040 without discussing it with you and will get you to purchase that GOLD Guarantee program, then lie to you about it! I called them up and told them they were liars and caught them in the scam that they were trying to pull. All they would do is put me on hold and then say I'm sorry. Sorry doesn't cut it! They charge you to do direct deposit. Direct deposit and Efile are free- but JH will charge the *** out of you and then when you confront them, they ignore you and treat you like you are a dumb ***. Do not do business with Jackson Hewitt location in Keyser WV. Taxes are not hard to do- these people only get 72 hrs of training and all they do is input info into the system. The program tells them exactly what to put and where. It is not difficult. They will prey on people that are expecting to be treated honest and fair, in an unprofessional manner and then have the nerve to charge you between $250.00-$400.00. Go to H&R Block.

I dont know if H&R block is any different. At this point, I dont think any business is going to be stright forward with any person if they think they can squeeze a dime out of them. I have never done business with H&R Block, but have heard people say that they went to them after being treated unfairly by other tax preparers.

After all the reviews in regards to JH, I would say that they are not the place to go to. I cant comment on every location, but this one in particular really pissed me off by the way we were treated. Then not have the nerve to call you back when I called the owner. They dont care.

Also, everyone has a right to freedom of speech. If JH dotn like, then perhaps they need to change their behavior.

:? Is H&R Block any different?

There were some changes made this year (by the Treasury Dept., not by Jackson Hewitt) regarding Refund Anticipation Loans, making it harder for some taxpayers to qualify. Every loan applicant is reviewed on an individual basis by the participating bank who, in their sole discretion, makes the loan decision.

Guest

I agree with all of you, Jackson Hewitt is a total rip off. Everyone that has had trouble, should file complaints with your states Atty General and maybe we could put them out of business.

Guest

They all knew before tax season started. It was on the internet that JH lost there funding this year, but they would just say that it is a loan, and you may apply.

So they didn't lie, but they didn't totally tell the truth. I am sure they were told not to by the company.

Guest

what are you trying to communicate to people? i don't understand your gibberish...

Guest

if you try to contact republic bank keep hitting 0 and you will get an agent...not very helpful, you can search the web for republic bank and they have everyone's email there so send a complaint or request...also pls contact your state attorney's office and ftc.com and submit a complaint, it is quick and easy

I agree with anonymous. What is the problem here?

The 1-3 day loan is not a guarantee and any extra you spent to get that was reimbursed into your refund. Complain about something legitimate.

Specify your correct address. I am assuming that your multiple W2's had mulitple addresses.

Guest

First off, what the eff is "lided"?? Secondly, so the problem is they asked you to simply provide proof of address and you refuse to and that's their problem??

Jackson Hewitt

January 28 went to the location in walmart. Waited 20 mins for them to tell me that they are doing software updates and were out of ink. I went home and came back two hours later. I waited about 45 mins no problem I expected that Dale completed my taxes and was very nice. This was on a thursday I did the RAL direct deposit. Dale put the wrong account number on for my bank so therefore it was rejected. Not only did they do this once but twice then they tell me that it will bounce back and print a check. Well tomorrow will be 6 days and I still don't have my refund. and I paid over $400.00 to them to have this done! They keep telling me "let me get your number and give you a call back " and then they don't. I had one call back from a lady named Karen in the Greenville office. I will never use them again and I will tell every single person about my visit with Jackson Hewitt! oh also I called the 800 number to the corporate office and they told me that there was nothing they could do about it. And I am sure that typing this up will do me no good either but There ya go.Damage Resulting = The day I filed with them I thought I would have my money in like 2 days so I paid all bills with the money I had. I even paid bills that were not due. So I have had to count out change for my children to have lunch money this week. Today is the 2nd and I have not paid my rent yet either. Needless to say I am very upset!

Rip off

i have used jackson hewitt for over ten years with good results for a reasonable cost. this time was different, they had me fill out a form stating that if i decided to not use them to file my taxes after they do the paperwork i would still owe them approx. 140.00 perhour for services rendered. i didnt think to much about it until they finally finished and showed me what they charged. the cost had always been approx. 220.00 this time was 540.00. i have all my records for last ten years taxes always done same way. was advised that a new franchise owner had changed price and that i could just pay the 140.00 and go somewhere else. will never use jackson hewitt again, sent memo to all in contact list. jackson hewitt in garland tx on beltline and interstate 30

Please be aware that you can always ask for a fee estimate at any Jackson Hewitt office and based on your answers the general complexity of your return can be determined. You will be given a fee range so you have an idea of what to expect before you sign anything.

Jackson Hewitt Sucks!!

Jackson Hewitt has no idea what they are doing. I went to them in 2008 after my husband & bought our house and they said we could not use the credit for 2008 and that we would have to wait for 2009 taxes. Well now I called the IRS and they told me we cant use the credit at all. They act like they have no idea what I'm talking about either. So, I have this guarantee and I'm going to let the IRS look at them so they will have to pay the penalties. Their preparers need to learn the tax law better. They are screwing with people's money! I don't recommend ANYONE to get their taxes done there!

Price gouging, and lack of explanation

I got my 2009 taxes done at the local branch and was surprised by the final acessed fees of $536.00. When I asked for a breakdown, I was told "well, it's complicated" I asked again and was told there will be a breakdown with my paperwork. I was not given any paperwork until after I signed all there documents and releases. I was surprised when I realized their preperation fee was $423.00 because my return was "complicated". I am married with 2 children and I have a mortgage. My wife and I had 1 W-2 each. Is that complicated? The branch manager was not helpful basically saying "you signed the documents" which is true, but shouldn't I have the opportunity to view these documents and know these charges before I sign. Price gouging and lining their pockets with the ignorance and trust of poor and unfortunate people. $500 is a LOT for people like me. I will never darken the door of that wolf den again....

Actually they wont give you an up front estimate. They tell you, and I quote " It all depends on your return."

JH knows that people need thier taxes done and some people are not sure of how to do this. It all boils down to the fact that people are just concerned about thier refund. Most businesses know this and will do whatever it takes to keep you quiet long enough to get you to sign the papers and out the door you go while they ( JH) count the money that they just robbed from you. Really look at what they are doing at the time they are doing it. Ask questions, no matter how small. Make sure that everything and anything is accounted for and make sure to read every page before signing. Don't leave until you fully understand what has happened. Also remember, these people "preparing your taxes" had limited training and all they do is enter numbers into the system. This system is a program that JH buys- which is just like TurboTax.

I had a recent encounter with these people and they told me every lie in the book just to cover thier tracks. I dont put up with people taking advantage of me so I contacted the BBB and also contacted the IRS to let them know how JH is operating.

Just remember to read and fully understand everything before walking out the door.

Guest

You can ask for an up-front fee estimate that is completely free. It doesn't provide a form by form break down of the fees, but will give you an idea before hand.

Jackson Hewitt is a JOKE!!!

I got approved for the money now loan before christmas. I went back on jan 4th with a promise from the "PROFESSIONALS" (which are only trained for 4 days) that the systems were down and the professionals made copies of all my info and said they would csll later that after noon and my6 money would be on my card. No call so i called over and over and kept getting routed to a call center that was very rude and unprofessional! No one had answers!! Finally I had to go to the office and filed my actual taxes with the PROMISE THAT MY 2nd MONEY NOW LOAN WOULD BE ON MY CARD THAT AFTERNOON...needless to say, it did not happen..i had to return to the office along with a room full of people with the same problem. Me and the manager got into an argument because i was upset and wanted answers! I requested to terminate my tax and loan application with them and they told me that it was too late!! THIS IS THE LAST YEAR I WILL DO MY TAX WITH JACKSON HEWITT!! Very unprofessional and full of ***---if the systems were down at the bank and then the IRS then how did other tax PROFESSIONALS offer the same exact service and had no problems! NEVER AGAIN

Jackson Hewitt Ripoff

I am suprised after reading here that Jackson Hewitt is able to stay in business. My own experience with them was horrible as well. Several years ago, in an attempt to receive my refund right away, I went to a Jackson Hewitt in LaPorte, IN (I now live in FL). They did my taxes incorrectly. I asked them to redo them. They were incorrect again. I asked them to redo them. They were incorrect again. For the third time I asked them to redo them, again they were incorrect. I did them myself, gave them to the office along with my complaint to the manager that they were incorrect 3 times and I eneded up doing them myself and then just letting the rep enter the info into the computer. I was still charged the Jackson Hewitt fee. There was no apology or anything. What a ripoff. I spent about 6 hours there and ended up doing the work myself anyway but still had to pay them. Now I just do them online- easy, simple and you still get to file electronic.

Ok first off JH is private contractors. I acked the lacky on West 10th street in Indianapolis what the cost was upfront and she said she didn't not all tax preparation was different.

But it would be not that much. Almost $300 for 3 w2's a 1099 and mortgage interest. Then the lazy *** couldn't even mail out the return for me.

NEVER AGAIN. WHAT A RIP OFF!

Guest

Jackson Hewitt is such a ripoff. I asked the woman before I even sat down to give me a ballpark estimate at how much it would cost to get my taxes done there.

Well it ended up being $118 for their services. I had four W2's and apparently the charged me for each one.

I have no dependents or anything to claim and the whole process took 10 minutes. But boy, did I get screwed over.

Guest

I have worked for JH for 6 tax seasons (that is until they harassed me and wrongfully terminated me). In my area the stores were largely corporate owned stores.

So, I actually worked for the company. A franchisee may have more of a vested interest in providing outstanding customer service (just a thought), but that also means that they may try to sell, sell, sell to you and not remain objective about your needs. Anyways, and to speak objectively, JH service can range anywhere from really poor to pretty good, but pricey.

I too share in your suprise that they have been able to stay in business, because they seem to do a lot wrong. Basically, you are saying that too.

So far as not getting your money back, and fees - let's just be honest that those are unrelated issues. The nature of the business is seasonal. The pay is low. Those people helping you are rarely very good.

I happen to hold a BA in Finance, and BS in Accounting, and worked there during school. I excelled at what I did, and yes - for the most part it was easy. I have since moved on to become a CPA / EA / CIA...and also to file a lawsuit against them for not offering me a reasonable accommodation. I only wish the best for the shareholders, and that they stay in business long enough to settle with me...All I can say is that there are a few questions you should ask before you plop yourself down in that tax preparers chair.

I.e. experience? commissions?

etc. The internet has spoken and made everyone at least a little bit smarter - so, these tax services are going to need to adjust to a smarter public, and an administration that cares about people.

Guest

jackson hewitt doen't not get your money back fast and you still owe them anywhere from $250-500. Depending on the false hope {product} that you fell victom to!!

Lousy liers

Like the rest of you i also went to jackson hewitt, i was told they are still doing the rapid loan so i went ahead and done my taxes there it took me almost three hours because the lady had to call someone else every five seconds to see if she was doing it right after all said and done she said i was approved for the loan and to check my card around 9 am the next morning. i did this at ten my money was still not there i went to the office and they then told me i was denied the loan, but i still have to pay all the fees!!!!! the day befor they told me it was only $345.00 and i start looking at my paper work and they are charging me $490.00 so every word they said to me was a lie. i will not be going there next year and i will tell all my friends, family also make fliers about how they rip people off and post them every where.....

Jackson Hewitt Stole $300 for nothing!

I am afraid Jackson Hewitt has succumbed to the baser natures. They are charging $250 to type my tax information from my W-2 into a standard tax program (that you can get for free), then $41 to "loan" you your refund, which you only RECEIVE after your taxes have been processed and AFTER the IRS pays the taxes to their bank...how exactly is that a loan? If anyone reads this, go to IRS.gov and get this done for free! This is absolutely taking advantage of unsuspecting consumers and stealing the hard earned cash of Americans! WHAT A RIPOFF!

Last year jackson and hewitt took over $300.00 from me on my rapid refund after all the charges. But what *** me off is it had nothing along the side to say who it went to like it did on the other charges.

It said to an unknown source. And I don't owe anyone so "WTF" happen?

I don't know, but never again will I go to them. They split my rapid refund i got half and half a week later

Guest

i filed my taxes at Jackson Hewitt last night, it wasn't until the end that they said my taxes would be in in 12 days. when i asked about the RAL, the taxpreparer said the IRS was stopping them from giving Rapid Refuind loans.

She lied. When i told her my daughter received a Rapid Refund from H&R Block, she said it was because my daughter has a1 credit. I happen to know my credit score is a whole lot higher than my daughters. I won't go there anymore.

They just took my money.

i didn't know about this until i looked up Jackson Hewitt to see what was going on. I feel really sorry for the young single working mother that sits 1 hour or more to get her taxes done, just to find out they can't give her a rapid refund.

No Fast Refund from Jackson Hewitt

Went to Jackson Hewitt for a fast refund. They prepared my tax return and I asked for the rapid refund (same day). Low and behold, I was advised that they no longer offered this, contrary to the advertisement on the desk I was sitting at. They told me that I could most likely have my refund the next day and having done this for twenty years (rapid refund, either same day or next day, I did not anticipate any problems. They did mention that in some cases, rapid refunds are not being approved by the bank (Republic). I did not worry, since in December, I had applied thru Jackson Hewitt for a refund anticipation loan and was approved and had my funds the same day. The day after my taxes were filed, I received a call from Jackson Hewitt to advise that I did not qualify for the rapid refund. I found this extremely unusual since I had qualified the previous month. The agent at Jackson Hewitt could not give any information why I was turned down and could not withdrawl my filing, trapping me into paying way too much for my tax refund. I could have filed myself with the IRS and requested direct deposit and got my funds faster than Jackson Hewitt is doing for over $300. I feel like Jackson Hewitt was aware this would happen. I definitely got scammed by Jackson Hewitt as I could have filed my self and got my refund faster. They told me it will take at least two weeks and I will have to go back into their office to pick up the refund check. This is not what I agreed to, or signed for, but since the information was already filed, nothing can be done. I totally anticipate that now I probably won't see my refund when they promised. I am a single mom and really needed those funds.

A RAL IS A LOAN. AND SUBJECT TO BANK APPROVAL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JH.

Guest

The same thing happened to us. They knew that only a small percentage of the people would actually get RAL's...but they don't tell anyone that.

She even told me we should be approved since we also got the RAL in Dec. Republic bank is broke and doesn't have the money to do the RAL's...Jackson Hewitt shouldn't even offer it.

just so everybody knows ahead of time, the "satisfaction guarantee" sign that you see posted while getting your taxes done by jackson hewitt is a lot of ***. they're tax preparer who did my taxes made a mistake on my bank account number when filing my taxes & it caused my check to be delayed by several weeks.

i was to have my check direct deposited in my account but ended up having to get the IRS to run a trace on it just to see where it actually went... still havn't recieved it... also the commercial you might see on tv, saying that jackson hewitt will do your taxes for $50 less than whoever did them last year is false. i was told that since the location in which i had my taxes done was a franchise & was independantly owned & operated, they didnt have to follow those jackson hewitt guidelines...

sounds like false advertising to me....

good luck... doug

jackson hewitt also screwed me over on a fast refund i was told my fees would only be 252.20 on a fast refund it is now gonna cost me 409.80
