I went to a "major" tax preparation specialist who did my taxes in 2007 and I provided her with all of the correct information in which she failed to document correctly and now I have received a letter from the IRS stating that I owe them 3500.00 from the tax return filed incorrectly in 2007. I took the information and letter in the exact package as they gave me in 2007 (I keep all of that information in a safe) and the representative that did them as well as her manager have stated that they would review my file and let me know if they had that information and contact me back.

I was advised by the representative that I would have an answer today in which I received early this morning a voicemail stating she didn't have the file and had to go to another location to get it but would return my call tonight.

Well they are now closed and I tried to call the office and no answers, what are my rights legally at this point? Can I go after the tax company for this?

Monetary Loss: $4000.

Location: Washington, District Of Columbia

I am beyond pissed, my father is non confrontational ,and will not eve send a meal back if it comes out wrong at a restaurant . Missbear2u@***.com

we got a letter from IRS saying they only will refund less than half the amount Jackson Hewitt said we would get. i called the 1-800 number for jackson hewitt and made an appointment with a different branch on 122 and powell in oregon since the branch on 82 and powell in oregon i went to was only open on thursday and fridays.

the other place wasn't any better either since they were there only 2 days a week too. first jackson hewitt was like yeah the gold gaurantee will cover it. then she started working on trying to fix it. she didn't know what she was doing, so she calls IRS, they said they will only talk to my husband since the business is under his name.

he calls and they tell him file paper work to amend the 941. so i called jackson hewitt back to tell her what's going on and she's like yeah bring the paperwork and i'll help you. took 3 weeks, was hard to reach and didn't really do anything. i filed it on my own hoping i did it right.

NEVER GOING TO JACKSON HEWITT AGAIN!!

i can save almost $500 and figure it myself or just go to the private small firm accountants. now that i think of it, jackson hewitt was probably taking their sweet *** time so it would be couple months after IRS sent the letter and than they would try to come up with some excuse to not to honor the gold gaurantee that we got.

Im sad to say that my local JH office in anchorage was responsible for tax fraud. My preparer was the manager of the main branch where I filed my return.

After an audit revelaed that the IRS payed MUCH more than I received, we had to run a traceroute on the bank accounts that my questionable IRS refund was depositied into. Sure enough my return was split into TWO separate depositis (unknown to me at the time, of course)- one for the amount my tax paperwork showed, and another for the additional amount filed in my name with the IRS, deposited into the bank account of the same JH manager that filed my return! Instead of filing my return, he altered and reprinted my return, submitting the larger return and keeping the difference. We are talking about nearly 2,000.00 worth of fraud, and neither the owner of the local office, or the gold guarantee folks at JH are willing to help.

I've been working on this for over a year now, and have had to pay back the IRS for the extra amount that was taken in my name as well as interest and penalties with NO HELP from JH, their gold guarantee department, the owner or anyone.

Who can I call to get something done about this? Do I have to press charges against the JH branch office?

My tax preparer never signed my return neither did i .the amount of time it was taking forced me into a hardship,so i got a tax advocate.i filed 01/31/2012 while faxing 2011 return to advocate she caught that neither of us signed delaying my process.it was caught today 03/26/2012 this is not covered by gold garantee should jackson hewitt be responsible for compensation and area manager linda garrett refused to talk to me.customer service linda refused to connect me to regional manager brad copeland after failed attempts reaching linda garrett

They don't tell you with the Gold Guarantee that you have to go to them within 30 days of hearing from the IRS to even get them to pay for their wrong. I bought the guarantee which covers $5,000.00 and they did the same thing to my tax info and I owe $3,600.00.

I went to the company after we recieved notice from the IRS and they sent us home and said come back with another type of IRS form. We did and because we didn't do it within 30 days they are not paying for it. What the *** do they give you up to 3 yrs to do that then?!!!

And the people that do your taxes take a 6 week course and then jump right into doing taxes. I know my sister works for them.

Hi. Jackson Hewitt has something called the Gold Guarantee that is offered in nearly every location.

Did you purchase this? If so they are required to fix your return and pay your penalties and interest. If not, they will usually still fix any preparer errors. This sounds like your office doesn't know company procedures.

I would try going to other offices in your area until you find someone who will sit down and look at your return. Best of luck.

hey john the reason people go to tax offices is because they don't know what the *** they are doing and what it's supposed to look like it's the preparers job to ask the right questions and put in the right information not the clients dumb ***

Hugh: thank you for your thoughts and if nothing else has came from this horrible experience I have definately learned something..

John : Yea unfortunatly I would love to agree with it being my fault by not reviewing it in detail and believing the professional that I paid to do my taxes correctly. But if I knew what I was looking for I wouldn't have paid someone to do my taxes. But thank you for your thoughts.

It is unfortunate that this happened but I take exception to the comment by John. I am a CPA with 30 years tax experience and I think that it is very difficult for some one who is not a tax professional to tell if their return is prepared correctly. In fact a very large proportion of returns are prepared incorrectly, expecially if they include anthing but wages, interest and dividends and basic itemized deductions.

The problem that you have encountered is the basic problem with franchised tax preparation services. The quality control is lacking, the training is rudimentary and it is rare to have more than one EA in the office nevermind having a CPA available for business returns. Often an EA will own several of these franchises or the owner will rely on corporate (franchise) support.

In addition, these franchises are not generally any cheaper than your local E.A. and are often as expensive as the local CPA.

Sorry and good luck.

You didn't review your tax prep before it got filed. I love all these complaints but the last time I checked it was the educated consumers responsibilty to check their return!!! :cry

You need to keep calling and coming into the office. Did you get the Gold Gaurantee?

Event the basic gaurantee should help you pay what is owed. The representative has to review the file, fill out the paperwork, and have your signature on the papers before faxing to the main office. Be sure to write down exactly what happened, who you talked to, and get the supervisor's name. Look at the papers the IRS sent you and check the date that your answer to the letter should be in, and make sure Jackson Hewitt takes care of you before the due date.

If it is their mistake, the Gold Gaurantee will cover it totally up to 5000.00. If you had the basic gaurantee, it will pay all interest and penalties, but you will have to pay the original amount.

It is up to you to make sure they get their part done to clear this mess up. It does take a little time to get the paperwork done, but it doesn't take more than a week.

I hope this helps you.

hey, I am in the process of getting the golden guarantee up. I have been in ongoing talks since april.

Finally my taxes got fixed but the bank got sent the adjusted return and I had to pay additional costs to get the golden guarantee started. I really hope that it goes thru because the person handling my situation has already switched up on me at least 7 different explanations. That in its self is red flag orientated. So I guess my question is how long before I will really see a check from the golden guarantee?

we are talking about 4000 that I should be receiving if I understood what I was being told correctly.

I haven't ever been able to talk with a district manager or anything since this has all begun which sends me yet another red flag. Like, where is their customer service, or why are they trying to avoid my concern and questions.
